HELP, I Want One!

This is nice player for a budget price. Vintage Buescher Super 400 S-20 tenor sax in original lacquer, serial number 371868. The Buescher 400 is a fat and robust player. It packs a lot of punch and is perfect for the person looking for power. These are a great way to get the fat American vintage sound with breaking the 2,000 price mark.

This particular Buescher was overhauled in our shop by Saxquest tech and Buescher enthusiast Ben Reece, who spent many hours play testing and fine adjusting to get it dialed in to perfection. The work included a set of Valentino pads, new corks, new felts and precise key fitting. Many of the original Buescher snap resonators are still on the horn. Some of them were removed from the horn in the past. For those keys/pads Ben used a suitable seamless metal resonator in there place. After a couple years, the sax is just starting to get that “broken in” kind of feel. It was recently re-checked by KC tech Scott Reed and is playing great.

Physically the sax is in very good condition. It shows signs of typical play and use for a horn of its vintage. The body tube, bow, bow cap and bell are all in nice shape. There was previously some work done around the bow but the bow cap has never been damaged. Ben also did a nice job cleaning up some old re-solders around a few of the key guard feet as well as the bell to body brace which was previously repaired. This sax does include the original neck with under slung octave key. The neck also has a small past repair to the under bracing rods.

This is a great player with a top notch overhaul. If you are looking for a serious gigging horn this Buescher 400 is going to be easy to fall in love with.
