Very nice original lacquer Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax in American style engraving, serial number 208790. This alto came to us having been played regularly once-upon-a-time, but had been sitting for awhile since. Currently in line for repair, it is going to receive a fresh cleaning and overhaul and will ship to its next owner in all new pads and material.
The original lacquer on this Mark VI is in the solid 90%-ish territory, with typical light wear from normal use, but it is obvious the horn has never been abused. A couple minor surface pings here and there from bumping against a chair or whatnot, but no serious dent work or trauma. The top foot of the low Eb keyguard has popped off and will be resoldered, as has the octave key saddle on the neck. The neck also has some minor lacquer wear near the cork, from an overzealous cork change at some point in the horn's history. All of these issues will be addressed during over overhaul.
Our repad is included in the price, and will entail a full disassembly and deep cleaning, inside and out. We'll replace all pads and materials, using firm leather pads matched with original style brown nylon resonators, and the best tech cork (where appropriate) for a positive feel under your fingers. Finally, we'll optimize the spring tensions for an even feel up and down (medium tension) and medium-open key heights. It will feel like a brand new horn once we are finished.
Currently blowing through some leaks, this alto still has some pop in it. It takes your air well without much resistance, and really wails when you start pushing some air through it. It has that nice Selmer foundational core, allowing you to push it without feeling like you are hitting a wall, and the upper range and altissimo just rips. Great horn, perfect for advancing players and professionals alike, anyone looking for a rebuilt Mark VI at a good price. Ships in its original case, which is also in great shape.
