This is an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous late 60s vintage King Marigaux alto sax, serial number 21087. A stencil made by SML, this sax is basically the same as the second version of the SML Gold Medal. This one is the prettiest examples I've ever seen, and is a fantastic find for serious collectors out there.
As you can see in the photos, this sax is nearly perfect. There are two long scratches on the bottom bow, and some very faint cosmetic scratching here and there (like on the neck), but that's it. No real wear to the original lacquer to speak of, no dents or dings, no resolders. As close to flawless as a 50+ year old saxophone can be. It comes with its original King mouthpiece and original case, all in excellent shape as well.
Needless to say, this horn arrived to us in all original pads, well past their prime. As such, it is currently in our repair shop in line for a fresh overhaul. We'll replace all pads and material, using premium firm leather pads and metal resonators, and optimize key heights and spring tensions throughout.
If you are a fan of the old SML or King horns, you won't find a nicer example. This sax looks incredible and will be playing perfectly after our work. A true gem.
