Here's a very nice late vintage (1955) C.G. Conn 6M alto sax in matte silver plate, serial number 535255. This alto has recently been freshly repadded and is ready to go for a new owner to enjoy.

This Conn features a matte silver plated body, with burnished (shiny) silver plated keys and inlay in the engraving, with a goldwash bell. It looks fantastic, with very little finish wear to speak of. The sax has some minor past dent work in the bottom bow, but no other repairs that I can spot, including no resolders. The original neck has the double socket receiver and underslung octave key (no microtuner). The alto was repadded using Pisoni pads and Music Mudic gold plated metal resonators.

To my ears, the post-WWII Conns tend to play a little brighter, but perhaps owing to the heavy silver plating, this alto still has a lot of warmth and color in its tone. It is definitely more of a spread sound, not as tight of a focus as you'd find on a Selmer or most modern horns. It makes for a great jazz horn, with a lot of punch and a decent edge that cuts.
