HELP, I Want One!

Fully Restored & in Perfect Playing Shape

This is a very pretty Conn transitional“Naked Lady” baritone saxophone, serial number 258999. The baritone was recently fully overhauled and is one incredible playing instrument. These vintage baritones were the back bone of the bari sax jazz sound from the late 30's through the Be-Bop and Cool eras. This one was manufactured in late 1933 and was probably one of the very last Chu/Transitional models made before the model number change over to 12M in 1934.

The Conn shows off all of the standard Chu Berry features. Rolled tone holes, finger nail file G# key and the Naked Lady engraving that only shows up on these late vintage models. It comes in all new pads fitted with large, flat metal resonators. The body of this instrument shows some signs of past dent repair but is in fantastic shape for its vintage. All of the rolled tone holes are in great shape. The bottom bow, bow cap and bell flare are also in outstanding original condition. The horn has a couple resolders around the bottom of the sax, as you see so often on these vintage horns. The work was done professionally and is back to perfect performance condition. It does have its original neck. This saxophone has been re-lacquered in the past, and was done very well. Its current finish showcases the proper dark honey colored lacquered which is nicely complemented by the crisp and original Naked Lady engraving. This is easily one of the nicest factory jobs we have seen in some time.

This bari is one very sweet playing instrument. It plays with a quick response to air flow and a rich free blowing sound. In regards to sonic color it has a warm center but could be considered to be a hair on the brighter side. It plays with a character very reminiscent of the classic recordings of Art Pepper and Gerry Mulligan. If you are looking for a free blowing player with plenty of personality you will not want to miss out on this “Naked Lady” baritone. This saxophone ships out from our shop in perfect playing condition.
