HELP, I Want One!

This is a sweet original lacquer Selmer Paris Mark VI bari sax, serial number 254794. Produced in 1976 at the tale end of the Mark VI run, these late vintage VI's often play with much better intonation than the earlier ones, and this one is no exception. It is a solid top shelf pro bari sax for the player looking for a Mark VI at a lower price.

Though this horn shows a fair amount of lacquer wear, it is all usual wear from honest use, and the horn has obviously never been abused. It amazingly has no major dent work to speak of. The bell flare is straight, and the upper crook is solid. There are a few minor dings in the bottom bow, but we'll remove this our shop before shipping. A previous owner added a second neck strap ring for their playing comfort; this can be left on or removed at the buyer's request. The original lacquer still shows great coverage throughout, and the neck is the original to the horn as well.

This bari came to us in nearly all original pads, which we don't see too often around here. Though still sealing for the most part, the pads are obviously 45 years old at this point, so it is currently in our repair shop in line for our full professional overhaul. We'll disassemble the horn, clean and polish it, and replace all pads and material. Using original style brown nylon resonators and premium synthetic cork, we'll get this sax playing better than than the day it left the factory.

This bari plays with a warm, focused sound, with a strong core and excellent balance in the middle register. The bottom is fat and punchy, and as expected, intonation is solid. If you've been on the hunt for a Mark VI bari but don't want to shed $8000+ for a “pretty” one, this horn will not let you down. Ships in a good hard case.
