HELP, I Want One!

Wonderful 1959 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI bari sax, serial number 81644. This bari features keywork to low A, a rare find in such an early vintage Mark VI, since it is was only available as a special order at the time. The horn is in solid physical condition, and will ship with a complete restoration from the Saxquest repair shop.

This bari was relacquered long ago, but as you can see in the photos, the engraving is still defined, and the horn was not overly buffed during the process. While it does have a few minor resolders, the horn is very straight, showing no signs of major past damage or trauma. While it has been played, it was never abused or “beat around.” The neck is not original (no serial number), but it is a true Mark VI neck and is in great shape. This horn arrived to us on old pads well past prime, and is currently in our repair shop in line for a complete overhaul. We'll take it apart, clean it inside and out, take out a few minor dings here and there, and replace all pads and material, using premium firm leather pads and original style brown plastic resonators. We'll get this horn playing better than the day it left the factory!

The main thing you worry about on early vintage Mark VI bari saxes is intonation. This horn does have its quirks, but is definitely manageable (I've played some early VI's that were more than 20 cents flat in the palm keys; this horn is pretty decent up in the top actually). This horn plays with with a full and beefy sound, lots of power in the bottom end, and I can't wait to give it a spin once a proper repad is complete on it! Ships in a good hard case.
