This is a tremendous price for a freshly repadded Selmer Mark VI tenor. This is a 1971 vintage model, serial number 190998. It has just been restored in our repair shop and plays like a brand new Mark VI.

This tenor was just overhauled in our shop by our senior tech, George Bunk. He did some dent work in the bottom bow area, cleaned up a couple resolders, and replaced all pads and material. Valentino Pro leather pads were used, matched with original style brown nylon resonators. George optimize the action so that it really feels brand new, with a smooth, effortless feel. There's no lost motion even in the ball-and-socket side keys, which are whisper quiet. Key heights have been set to medium-open and spring tensions to medium.

This tenor was relacquered decades ago, and the “newer” lacquer shows excellent coverage throughout. Minor past dent work in the bottom area done by George, but otherwise straight as an arrow, and the original neck doesn't appear to have ever been pulled down. There's some old residue on the front curve of the bottom bow that we were unable to remove. Didn't want to go scrubbing at it too hard and end up damaging the old lacquer, so it is still lightly visible, and purely cosmetic at this point.

This tenor rocks, no other way to say it. Big, bold sound, with an edge that cuts through a loud room. Definitely a dynamic player for the rock and funk crowd, but I imagine you could tone it down with the right mouthpiece if you wanted to do a smaller setting. Finding a repadded Mark VI for $5k these days is unheard of, this one should sell quickly.
