Very clean original lacquer Selmer Paris Mark VII tenor sax, serial number 262223. One of the prettier vintage Selmer's you'll see without spending $4k+, this tenor also includes a fresh repad/overhaul from our shop. It was just completed by George Bunk, and is in perfect playing shape.
This tenor has obviously been very well cared for over its life. The original lacquer is a solid 90-90% intact with only minor cosmetic wear from normal use. Obviously never beat around or abused. There's some minor past dent work in the bottom bow, which is currently dent-free, and just a couple resolders. During the overhaul George found air leaking from the joint between bow and tube, so that has been soldered, with only light lacquer loss from the work. The original neck was previously ever-so-slightly pulled down, but this too has been professionally corrected, and the work is solid.
George did our full pro overhaul on this tenor, cleaning it up inside and out, and replacing all pads and material. It was padded with Valentino Pro leather pads and oversized, seamless metal resonators. Key heights and spring tensions have been optimized, and the horn feels (and plays!) just as good if not better than the day it left the factory.
I found this to be a warmer sounding Mark VII, with a solid core and lush bottom end. Its tone stays even up into the palm keys and beyond. While overall a slightly darker tone, it still projects great, and you can move a ton of air through it. This would be a good tenor for college students or pro's who find themselves in a variety of settings, as it has versatility for just about any kind of gig you can find.
