This is a vintage Buescher 'The New Aristocrat' alto saxophone in gold lacquer, serial number #264135. These altos came after the True-Tone model and began being manufactured in 1932 with updated features and a really nice tone, this one was finished that very year! The main updated features to note are the left pinky table keys, and a front f mechanism. This particular sax features the #2 neck, signified by two stars stamped near the neck tenon. Other than these new features, this saxophone has standard key work from low Bb up to palm F, ergonomically improved side keys that curve up towards your hand, single post construction, Norton gold-plated springs, split bell keys, and alternate G# and D# fingerings available in the lower stack.
Physically this horn has retained its structure very nicely over 90 years, at some point it was relacquered and shows signs of repair in the past, but the bow, bow-cap, bell, body tube, and tone holes are all in fantastic condition. The pads and materials this horn came in are holding a seal and functioning well, so we are going to offer this in as-is condition.
Sonically, the 'New Aristocrat' plays with a warm, vibrant, focused character in the lower registers. Towards the palm keys and beyond this saxophone gives off a sweeter singing quality which is nice on alto since those notes can be very piercing! Intonation on this horn is redeeming for the era, most notes are locked right in without adjusting much once the horn is tuned.
Jazz players looking for an extra boost to their alto tone would enjoy this saxophone. This horn ships with its original Buescher box case in as-is condition with the original neck.
