This is a restored 1925 vintage Martin Handcraft series tenor sax, serial number 54806. The Handcraft name that Martin would become famous for was just introduced in 1919, making this a very early example. This horn was completely restored in all new silver plate a few years ago,, with gold wash inside the bell, and looks stunning.

As you can see in the photos, the horn is gorgeous shape, with heavy silver plating throughout, which has only recently started to tarnish. When I first saw the horn, I thought maybe the engraving had been recut, since it is so clear and defined, but it is the original factory engraving. Proof that the sax wasn't overly buffed during the replating. It was repadded, then, using brown plastic resonators. The horn hasn't been played much since the work, but the pads are starting to age. It is playing decently on its current pads and set up, but could use some regulation to really optimize it. We are selling the horn as-is.

The sax is in very good overall physical condition, with signs of previous dent work and whatnot under the newer plating, but no repairs since the restoration. The neck is in great shape and is original to the horn, with matching serial number. This is a very cool horn for collectors of saxophone history, and would make a great addition to anyone's collection.
