HELP, I Want One!

This is a sweet “Coltrane vintage” Selmer Super Balanced Action tenor sax, serial number 43063. This 1950 vintage SBA was relacquered long ago and later re-engraved in the original style, and remains in great shape. It has a lot of life to give to a new owner, and remains a premier tenor for the discerning professional saxophonist.

This tenor is one of the best playing horns in the shop right now. It plays with a big, powerful voice, and while projection is great, it doesn't lose any warmth or color, even at louder volumes. It is punchy without being too focused, and free blowing without being too diffuse. Really a fantastic all-around horn that can play any genre, in any setting.

Physically, the pictures pretty much tell the tale on this one. It was relacquered a long time ago, and has seen a lifetime of playing since, but remains in great shape. There are signs of past dent work in the body tube, but all work was done well, and the bottom bow and bow cap remain straight. A couple minor resolders dot around some of the lower body keyguards, but again, all done very well. The original neck, with matching serial number, is also in great shape.

This sax came to us in a set of red leather pads, and pads are starting to show their age. As such, it is currently in our repair shop in line for a complete overhaul. We'll replace all pads and material, using premium firm leather pads and oversized, seamless, slightly domed metal resonators. We'll optimize key heights and spring tensions throughout, and get it feeling like the day it left the factory in 1950. We'll also replace the 1 missing pearl on the B key, as seen in the photos.

If sound is all that matters to you, this tenor will hit it out of the park for you. Truly an exceptional horn, one you won't want to put down. Ships in a hard shell Selmer Vanguard case.
