HELP, I Want One!

Vintage Mark VI – 1967
This is a fantastic vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone in original lacquer, serial number 149704. The Mark VI's in this serial number range are known for being a little more focused and brighter then their predecessors. As such they are highly versatile and can be used in practically any musical situation. This particular alto is a knock out world class player. It has a beautiful medium warm sonic color which is lush and extremely resonant. The timbre is precisely balanced from top to bottom and never becomes thin or compromised.  I was especially impressed with the full richness of the palm keys. The key work is smooth and fluid under the fingers. All of the pearls are in good shape and provide a positive feel under the tips of the fingers.
Physically the body of the alto is in solid condition from top to bottom. The body tube, bow and bell are all in great original condition. It shows no history of any major past repair. All of the original key work and key guards in are intact and in great shape.  Looking over the horn very thoroughly, all of the key guard feet are in nice original condition and have never been re-soldered. The original lacquer finish on the alto shows a nice dark honey tint which is nicely complemented by the clear American floral cut engraving. The lacquer finish does show what is called crazing. We have seen this on many horns in the past and it is often seen on horns that come from areas with a lot of dry heat. This does not effect the sound or integrity of the instrument but does cause an interesting texture to the cosmetic look of the instrument. This saxophone also includes the original neck. The neck is in great condition and has never been pulled down.
This saxophone is currently in the Saxquest shop awaiting a professional set-up. The set-up will include a complete disassemble and cleaning of the horn. We will then replace any needed pads and all of the key corks and felt materials. Once complete the alto will be in perfect playing condition. The previous owner of this saxophone replaced the original neck screw with an aftermarket weighted screw. See picture (6)
This alto ships in perfect playing condition with a modern contoured case. Please stay tuned for more pictures and a video.
