Here is a sweet first series Selmer Paris Super Action 80 tenor sax in black lacquer, serial number 371377. This tenor is in tremendous shape and available for a fantastic price for a Selmer Paris in this kind of condition. It will get a fresh overhaul from our repair shop before shipping, and come to you in all new pads and ready for the long haul.

Black lacquer generally doesn't hold up as well over time as traditional gold lacquer; scratches dig through the black exposing the brass underneath. However, this tenor looks fantastic, with over 95% original black lacquer intact. There's some scratching here and there, but no major wear of note, and that includes no major dent work or previous repair. There are 2 spots that we'll repair in our shop during our overhaul. The bell flare is slightly bend on the front of the lip, most likely shipping damage in getting to us. We'll do our best to remove this bend without hurting the lacquer. Also, the neck does have a slight pull down and a minor ding under the octave key. We'll bring the neck up to proper position and take that ding out, and unfortunately this may hurt the lacquer a bit. Again, we'll do our best to keep lacquer loss to a minimum while still correcting the pull.

This tenor was last repadded 20 years ago and current pads are starting to show their age. It's also been some time since the horn was last properly cleaned. In order to make this tenor perfect for its next owner, we'll do a complete disassembly and cleaning, with all new pads/corks/felts (matched with original style Selmer S80 metal resonators), and a proper adjustment. The action will be set to factory specs, and once complete, will play and feel like a new horn again.

This tenor plays with a definite warmer/darker quality, but isn't quite as focused as you'd find on a modern Series II or III. Very open feeling and a strong center, which helps the altissimo pop effortlessly. Currently playing through some leaks, I can't wait to see what it is capable of once our work is complete. Ships in its original Euro style case, also in excellent shape.
