This is a Selmer Paris Reference 54 alto saxophone from the early 2000's, serial number 654791. The Reference series by Selmer ran from the early 2000s up until the release of the Supreme model. They feature a rich free blowing feel and have been a favorite choice of professional jazz players for years. These horns play with a delightful warmth and a presence that commands the listeners attention. The Reference is considered to be freer blowing in direct comparison to the SII and SIII models made by Selmer Paris.

If you are looking for a really pretty Reference this alto is going to be hard to pass up. There is no history of serious repair on this alto, no major body work and absolutely no re-solders. All of the key guards are in fantastic original condition. The alto does show some normal cosmetic play wear from past used but nothing too serious. It is with the original neck which is also in excellent condition and has never been pulled down.

This particular Reference 54 came into our shop playing decently through some leaks with its original factory pads and most of the original materials. It will ultimately need some professional servicing before it can be considered in perfect playing condition. As the pads on this horn are now 20 years old it is also an opportune time to take it to your preferred tech to have it done up to your own preference. In order to offer the saxophone at a lower price point we are offering this saxophone in as is condition.

We are offering this Reference alto in as-is condition at a lower price point. But, we have added the option to add an overhaul at a discounted price If you go with this option please allow for a 10 to 12-week turn-around period on the repair service. The Saxquest overhaul would include a complete dissemble, cleaning, key fitting and through regulation of the key work. Once complete it will be in perfect playing condition with a new set of premium leather pads, metal dome resonators as well as all new corks and felts.
