HELP, I Want One!

Freshly Repadded by Josh Creekmore in the Saxquest Shop

This is an absolutely gorgeous original lacquer Buescher 400 “Top Hat & Cane” engraved alto sax, serial number 309277. Arguably the best jazz horn Buescher ever made, this model features a larger bell and bottom bow over the traditional Buescher Aristocrat, with detailed engraving wrapping completely around the bell and down onto the bottom bow. This alto has just been restored in the Saxquest repair shop by Josh Creekmore, and ships ready for years of enjoyment.

As you can see in the photos, a vintage horn from 1946 can't look much nicer! The original lacquer is a solid 98-99% intact, with only cosmetic scratching here and there. There are no dents or dings, no resolders, and no previous repairs of any kind. The original neck, with underslung octave key, is perfect, with no previous pull-downs. It is a joy when we find vintage horns in this kind of condition, they just don't come around very often.

Saxquest's Josh Creekmore did the full overhaul on this alto, using Prestini tan kangaroo leather pads, and all of the original hardware. It has all of its original snap-in metal resonators, original gold plated Norton springs, and original amber rollers. Except for the new pads and material, it is completely factory, and plays just as good as the day it left the factory in 1946.

Sonically, this alto plays with a crisp attack and lots of color in its tone, slightly darker tone overall. It takes your air very quickly, with a fast and lively response, with just the right amount of positive resistance to give you something to push against. Resonant throughout its range. This is a tremendous jazz horn and a whole lot of fun to play! Ships in its original hard case, with original white mouthpiece as pictured.
