Extremely nice original lacquer Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Series II alto sax, serial number 571739. This alto looks fantastic with 95% original lacquer intact. It has been well cared for over its life; you won't find a used one much nicer!
Physically, this alto is about as pretty as they come. No major lacquer wear on the body, just light wear on a few touch points and the back side of the bell. The bell flare was ever-so-slightly bent on one side in the past; this has been corrected and is almost imperceptible. There 2 tiny dings in the bottom bow which we will remove. No other past damage, including no resoldered joints. The neck, original to the horn, does show more pronounced lacquer wear, as seen in the photos, but it has never been damaged. A previous owner has added risers to the side keys and palm keys, which will be removed in our shop before shipping. There may be lacquer wear on the keys when the risers are removed.
This sax came to us on all original pads, which at this point are decades old, so in order to get this sax in proper playing shape, it will get a full pro overhaul from our shop before shipping. Included in the price, it will have all new pads and material, matched with original style metal resonators. We'll remove those aftermarket risers, take out the 2 dings previously mentioned, and optimize the key heights and spring tensions for feel and response. It will feel and play like a new horn again once we are finished.
The Series II has long been the go-to sax for serious advancing students, especially in the concert band setting. With superb intonation and a warm, dark tone that blends easily, it has been top dog in that setting for nearly 35 years. This example is no slouch, and is a dynamic player. Ships in its original wood Vanguard case with leather case cover.
