1966 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 137299. This tenor ships with a fresh overhaul from the Saxquest repair shop, and is a fantastic option for players looking for a vintage Mark VI without breaking the bank.

This tenor was relacquered long ago, though you might not tell right away upon looking at it. The engraving is quite good, with no signs of serious past buffing. Most relacquers certainly look a lot worse! This horn was done well, with little-to-no material taken off the horn in the process. Physically, it has a few minor dings and dimples, but those will be removed in the course of our overhaul. The neck is original, and though it was made just after they stopped stamping serial numbers, it does have the low octave key saddle of this vintage.

Our overhaul will include full disassembly and cleaning, all new pads and materials, and a fresh pro set up. We'll optimize key heights and spring tensions, and retain original style brown plastic resonators, so that the horn plays and feels much like the day it left the factory in 1966.

Though the high dollar horns are from that early “5 digit” realm, I really dig this mid 60's vintage tenors. This horn plays with a clean and pure tone, slightly brighter than those earlier Mark VI's, with a lot of punch and edge in its sound. It cuts really well, and makes for a good lead tenor that hits hard. It is a whole lot of horn for the price! Ships in its original case as pictured.
