This is a player's Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 104627. This is a solid horn for the pro player on a budget, someone seeking an early 60s vintage Mark VI at a much lower price than you typically see them. It has a lifetime of playing in its rear view mirror, but still has plenty to offer a new owner.

This tenor was overhauled in our repair shop in the last couple years, and has not seen a lot of playing time since. We repadded it using Valentino Pro leather pads and oversized, flat brass TM Custom screwback resonators. Our top premium job. The sax will get a fresh once-over in our shop before shipping, where we'll make sure everything is still sealing well, and that the sax is in perfect adjustment before going out.

The pictures tell the tale of this sax. It was stripped long ago and is currently unlacquered. The original American style engraving is pretty faint, having been mostly buffed off, and there are signs of past repair and resolders here and there. The neck is not in great shape unfortunately. It is the original neck, with matching serial number, but it was pulled down in the past, and when it was brought back up, it cracked on one side. The proper repair was made with silver solder rather than a big ugly patch, but the neck still feels a bit lumpy on that side. Further repair is not feasible, as the weakened metal may crack again. The neck still plays well with the horn, but if you are hard on your gear, you may consider purchasing a replacement neck in the future. A modern Selmer Reference series neck would go with the horn well.

This tenor plays with a rich and very open sound, with good balance up and down and a strong core. Very light on resistance and overall a free blowing instrument. It really rips in the palm keys and altissimo! Many Mark VI's from this era are approaching $10k, and this one is bargain priced to sell fast. With the top shelf overhaul, it will last you a long time to come. Ships in a premium Hiscox case.
