This is an old 50s vintage Buffet-made Evette Schaeffer tenor saxophone, serial number 8202. This tenor shares a lot of characteristics with the Buffet Dynaction model horns of the same era. It is in excellent physical condition, and can be had for a great price.

The Evette Schaeffer horns were sort of Buffet's “entry” level instrument, but that can be misleading, as they are well built and tonally, are very similar to Buffet Paris's top end instruments. This tenor does play with a classic darker tone, with a strong focus and warm core that seeps lushness at every breath. If you like that French sax sound on a budget, you can't go wrong.

Physically, the horn is straight. It was relacquered a long time ago but honestly hasn't seen much playing since. There is little lacquer wear to speak of, and absolutely no dents or signs of previous damage or repair. Pads are all in great shape, fitted with brown plastic resonators. The sax is playing well as it sits on the older adjustment, but we will tweak a couple things before it ships. Currently, the table keys are really stiff, and that's pretty common on these instruments, but our techs can make them feel a bit better. We'll do that work, and make sure the sax is sealing properly.

This is a great price on such a lovely instrument. Makes for a great classical horn, or a solid sax for the advancing student wanting something more substantial than your average beginner horn. Ships in a vintage Buffet tenor case.
