HELP, I Want One!

Absolutely stunning 1928 vintage C.G. Conn New Wonder II “Chu Berry” series alto sax in original gold plate, serial number 213355. This horn has it all: looks to kill, a sound to match, and new pads to seal the deal. It's the perfect example of a Conn alto from this era.

The original gold plating on this alto looks incredible. There's some light tarnish going on here and there in between the keys, but the sax shows little finish wear to speak of. This alto has all of the features of a great Conn of this vintage: rolled tone holes (never filed on), trill G#, fingernail file G# in the table keys, and a microtuner neck. The octave key of the neck is not original to the horn, as seen in the photos, but everything else on this Conn is factory.

Pads are all in like-new condition, fitted with oversized seamless metal resonators. The sax has been set up with a pretty open key height and lighter spring tensions, and feels like butter under your fingers. The action is completely effortless, though it might take you a minute to get used to the open key heights. Sonically, this alto plays with a ton of warmth and color, with a lightning fast response. The gold plating seems to add depth to its tone, generating a pure, clean timbre with just a bit of edge when you need it. The sax ships in a vintage hardshell Buescher case of the same era.
