This is an original lacquer, 1967 vintage Selmer Mark VI alto sax, serial number 151503. This sax is a phenomenal player, and features a recent Ken Beason overhaul. It ships in perfect regulation, ready to go for the long haul.

Dating to 1967, this horn is right in the most desired year for the Mark VI altos, and features true American style engraving. This is no “museum horn,” it has been out in the real world getting played, but still it remains in great shape. The original lacquer still shows very good coverage. There's signs of past dent work here and there and some resolders in the bottom bow area, which has cooked some of the lacquer, but all in all it is solid top to bottom. The neck is original to the horn, and it has never been pulled down. The neck did have a mic pickup at one time, which has been removed and sealed with a flush plug.

This alto was last overhauled by expert tech Ken Beason, using leather pads and extremely oversized domed brass resonators. The resos fill the pad cups, but are expertly installed so as to not come in contact with the tone chimneys. Really great work. Since the work, the horn has been played, so we'll do a fresh set up before shipping, just to make sure everything is tight and perfect for the new buyer.

This alto plays with a commanding, strong voice, with excellent control. Its tone is fat and powerful without losing the warmth and color at its center. A very dynamic player with excellent versatility; you can take this gem to any gig and it will slide in effortlessly.
