HELP, I Want One!

This is a classic Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 131807. This is a true road warrior kind of horn, perfect for players wanting a Mark VI, but not one so pretty that you are afraid of it getting a scratch or dent. It is going to be shipping with a fresh repad from the Saxquest shop, and well set up for the next chapter in its life.

This tenor is an old relacquer, with a fair amount of lacquer wear to the “newer” finish. It is an American engraved VI, and the engraving, while fainter in spots, is still clearly visible. This tenor shows off its share of previous dings and resolders, but no serious past trauma: the bell flare hasn't been bent, the bell-to-body brace is round, and the bottom bow guard has just one little dent near the back. The sax does have its original neck, which looks like it was pulled down at some point, but does have the correct curve now.

Like most busy, gigging professionals, the previous owner had pads replaced as needed, but it had been awhile since the sax received a complete overhaul. It will get the special treatment from our shop. We'll take it apart, clean it inside and out, and replace all pads and material, using original style brown plastic resonators. We'll remove the little dings and dimples and get it to its next owner straight.

This Mark VI dates to 1966, and plays with a very punchy, edgy quality. Overall I found it to be a hair brighter than the earlier “5 digit” horns. It takes all of your air well, and while it does have a nice core and a bit of focus, it never feels inhibiting or constrictive. A fantastic player for the bar and stage gigs. Ships in a contoured SKB case.
