This is a freshly restored 1951 vintage Selmer Paris Super Balanced Action series alto sax, serial number 47241. This Euro engraved SBA was just overhauled in our repair shop by Aaron Standing and comes ready to play!

As you can see in the photos, the sax hows a fair amount of lacquer wear and a handful of resolders around its lower body keyguards. Having said that, Aaron spent a lot of time correcting its issues and it is in perfect playing shape. It has all new premium firm leather pads, matched with oversized slightly domed nickel metal resonators. The keywork/action has been precisely adjusted and feels great under your fingers, with a slightly open key height and medium spring tensions throughout. It pops under your hands and feels crisp and “new” with no slop or lost motion. The sax is complete with its original neck, which currently has a mic pickup. We left it in, in case the new owner likes it, but we can easily and quickly remove it and seal with a flush plug if you desire.

I've always been partial to the SBA and very early Mark VI horns, because they always have a very free response with less focus than a later Mark VI or more modern sax. It has that quintessential Selmer warm sound but feels very free and open, while retaining a strong core that lays the foundation for you in all registers. Really dynamic player for everything from ballads to classical to jazz to rock or funk. With the new overhaul, you have assurance that it will be playing great for a long time to come.
