HELP, I Want One!

This is a sweet 1951 vintage King Zephyr alto sax, serial number 320883. This horn dates back to the days when the Zephyr was still considered a pro model sax. Though the Super 20 was getting all the attention, this series of Zephyr was still built well and was a great, lower priced option for King. This one has just been completely repadded and is priced to move.

The engraving on the bell on this alto is perfect, and the color is about right for this vintage, so upon first inspection I thought it might actually be original lacquer, but I later decided it was probably relacquered at some point in its life, most likely at the factory. The engraving is perfect, with no signs of buffing, so the job was obviously done very well. The lacquer shows modest wear, mostly on the backside of the tube as seen in the photos, and on the usual touch points.. The body of the horn is straight, with no signs of past dent repair, and no resolders. The sax is missing the low Eb keyguard, which is common since they are the same as Super 20 guards, and people tend to swap them over to those horns when they are missing. The rest of the horn is complete, including its original, double socket neck, which has the matching serial number stamped in it.

This alto was repadded in the Saxquest repair shop by veteran tech Derick Tramel. It features premium firm leather pads (Valentino Pro series) with oversized, seamless metal resonators. It is a top end professional pad job, and backed by our full year mechanical warranty. Sonically, this alto plays with a big sound, while staying on the warmer side, and with a lot of tonal color. You can move a ton of air through this instrument, and you don't feel like you are hitting a wall. It's a whole lot of alto for the price! Ships in its original hard case, with one broken latch, but otherwise still in good shape.
