HELP, I Want One!

This is a 1945 vintage CG Conn 10M “Naked Lady” engraved tenor sax, serial number 311892. This tenor comes with a recent pad job, with all pads in like-new condition, and it is playing up a storm. If you've been seeing 10M prices creeping up, then you know this is a great deal on a “ready to gig” 10M.

This tenor was relacquered a long time ago, and almost certainly done at the factory. The engraving remains crisp and detailed with no signs of heavy buffing, and even the lacquer color has that nice, aged look. Most likely relacquered in the 50s or early 60s. The rolled tone holes show no signs of buffing either and all are in great shape. I see one resoldered joint, on one post of the high D key, but no other resolders or past damages that I can spot, and that includes no real past dent work. The original neck was slightly pulled down at some point, but that was before the sax was relacquered, so there is no crease or fracturing of the lacquer.

This tenor was repadded 2 years ago and has seen little (or no) playing since, so all pads are in pristine shape with no wear on them. They are matched with brown plastic resonators. The regulation on the sax isn't optimal, and not up to our high standards, but rather than sink some bench hours on the horn, we decided to sell it as-is at a lower price. It helps that the sax is playing great as it sits, allowing a whisper to low Bb. Players wanting a 10M know what they want: big, powerful voice, free blowing response, and a horn that will wail when called upon. This tenor delivers on all fronts, and is a dynamic player for jazz and rock. Fantastic American made sax from a great era in jazz music.
