HELP, I Want One!

This is a freshly restored 1938 vintage Selmer Balanced Action tenor sax, serial number 26379. This horn looks incredible and has a fresh pad job and regulation from our repair shop. It is in perfect playing shape and ready to go!

This tenor was restored in our shop by Derick Tramel, using a set of Valentino Pro leather pads and Selmer style brown nylon resonators. The action is crisp and light under your fingers, set up to factory specs with a lighter spring tension and medium-open key heights. It feels like butter; you'd never know this horn was pushing 85 years old based on looks and feel.

As for looks, you'd be hard pressed to find a Selmer BA in better shape. It has been relacquered (as have the vast majority of Balanced Actions), but the work was done a long time ago and the lacquer color has a beautiful, aged patina that stands out. Since that lacquer job long ago, the sax has not seen much playing, and the lacquer stands at 98% with only minor cosmetic scratching. There's a couple shallow, minor pings in the bottom bow, but no real dents or previous repairs to speak of on the body. The original neck has some minor dent work at the front of the neck just behind the cork (see the last photo). The neck has never been pulled down.

This tenor is playing up a storm! Big, roaring voice and generates a ton of volume. Has a fat, full tone and takes all the air you can muster. Definitely more spread than a more modern Selmer, but still retains the warmth and color that you'd expect from a top shelf Selmer Paris tenor. Fun horn to play, and a great option for players who dig the classic Paris horns.
