Product ID: 264851MarkVIIAlto
1977 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VII alto sax in original lacquer, serial number 264851. This alto has been professionally played and maintained, but is ready to go to a new player to enjoy.
This alto came from a pro player, original owner, who enjoyed it for all of its life, but he's ready to move on. The sax shows normal lacquer wear for a gigging horn, but absolutely no dents or dings, and no signs of previous dent repair. There are a couple resoldered joints, on feet of the lower body keyguards, but that's it. The original neck once had a very slight pull-down, but this has been corrected and shows no lasting damage.
This Mark VII came to us on aging pads, and the keywork was pretty clicky from missing or compressed key adjustment corks. As such, the sax is now in our repair shop in line for a complete overhaul. We'll disassemble and clean the horn, replace all pads and material (using original style brown nylon resonators), and adjust key heights and spring tensions throughout. It will be set with medium spring tensions and medium-open stack heights, for a factory-like feel.
Even though there are some leaks right now before the work has been done, you can still get a sense for a very fine playing vintage Selmer. Has an overall warmer sound, with a lively response and strong focus. It has the edge and punch you want to carry through a big room, but also the warmth can be used in a smaller setting, especially when paired with the right mouthpiece. A good all-around, versatile alto for a great price. Ships in a hard shell SKB case.
