This is a great horn for the pro player and the Buescher enthusiast alike! This is a Buescher Aristocrat “small bell” art deco in original lacquer, serial number 290540.
The body of the saxophone is in great physical condition showing off original lacquer finish. Its lacquer has a rich dark honey color which is nicely complemented by the engraving. This saxophone came into our shop playing through a bunch of leaks on an older set of pads. As our shop is very backed up we are currently offering it in as is condition.
There has been some history of minor dent and solder work on this saxophone. A few smaller dings still remain around the bow. The bell to body brace was repaired in the past. Its bell flare and original neck are both in great shape and have no history of past repair. The saxophone has all but one of the original amber key rollers. It does also have all the Norton gold plated springs and many of the Buescher snap resonators.
Sonically this saxophone plays with a warm and sweet sonic character. The Buescher sound, independent of a lot of the other American vintage saxophones, has a real sweetness to the sound. Not so much of the brashness of an old Conn, these old Buescher tenors tend to have a very centered mellow core sound. We are currently selling this saxophone in as is condition on its older pads. It is going to ultimately need an overhaul before it is in perfect playing condition. If you are looking to get into a nice old Buescher this one can be picked up at a great price.
