This is an old Meyer Brothers New York 4M hard rubber mouthpiece for alto saxophone. The mouthpiece shows typical character for an old hard rubber piece but is in stellar physical condition. Its original facing profile of the table, tip and side rails is in excellent condition. There is a small indention on the beak from previous teeth placement but nothing to serious.
The tip opening on the piece measures a true original 4 at .067”. Its smaller tip opening makes it a good candidate for refacing if you want something more open. But as it is it does perform very nicely with a slightly heavier reed. The air intake is super efficient and very balanced on this mouthpiece. It exudes a warm and centered sonic character that allows for a ample flexibility and sonic versatility. These Meyers are a quintessential item for the straight ahead jazz alto player and work great for lead work as well.
