This is a mid-90s vintage Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Series II tenor sax, serial number 546719. Just by looking at this tenor, you'd never guess it was 25 years old. It looks spectacular, and has either spent most of its life in its case, or played sparingly with kid gloves.
It's hard to find a used Selmer Paris in so nice of condition. The original lacquer is a solid 98-99% intact, with only very light wear on a couple touch points, like around the neckstrap ring. Mostly just surface cosmetic scratching from light use, on the back of the bell, tube, and bottom bow. There's one tiny ding in the tube which we'll remove, but no other damage and no resolders. The original neck is flawless, with all of the factory blue paint still intact around the “S” of the octave key.
This tenor came to us in mostly original pads, which despite being in great shape, are 25 years old. As such, we're going to do this tenor up right, replacing all pads and material throughout. We'll set the spring tensions and key heights to factory specs, and the horn will ship playing just as good, if not better, than the day it left the factory. All work is included in the price.
This Series II plays with a definite warm, lush sound, with an easy response and not a lot of back pressure. It's a tremendous horn for serious classical players, but can certainly do jazz with the right mouthpiece, especially for those players looking for a classic warmer jazz sound. This is not a one-trick pony, it is versatile enough for any gig you want to take it to. Ships in its original Selmer Vanguard wood case with leather case cover, all in excellent shape.
