Fantastic 1966 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax, serial number 137051. This is a true medium bow Mark VI, same design as the fabled 140xxx horns. It has just been restored in the Saxquest repair shop by Josh Creekmore, and is ready for a new owner to enjoy.
This alto was relacquered long ago, and was ready for a proper restoration. We had it re-engraved in the original style, and the work looks great. We did a complete restoration on this alto; it needed some dent work as well as some resolders. We did all the work here in the store and now have the sax back in excellent physical condition. This sax may not be a real “looker” but it can play its butt off and will not disappoint the player who cares more about the sound than appearances. It does have its original neck, which does not appear to show any past damages or repairs.
This Mark VI was repadded using premium Valentino Pro firm leather pads and oversized, seamless metal resonators. Spring tensions and key heights have all been adjusted for optimal feel and response.
This alto plays with a big, punchy sound, and is definitely a power horn. It has a lot of edge and cuts through a room like a knife through butter. Paired with a good lead alto mouthpiece, this Mark VI carries above the section with a sound that explodes out of the bell. It's a great alto for serious players.
