This is a fantastic deal for the player who cares only about the sound (and looks, not so much). This is an original lacquer Yamaha YTS-62 'purple logo' vintage professional tenor sax, serial number 005413. This horn has been played and enjoyed a bunch, but still has plenty to offer for its next owner.
When you look at the photos, you have to look past some of the dirt and grime, because we will clean all of that off in our repair shop before shipping. This sax is currently in line in our repair shop for a thorough cleaning and adjustment. We'll take it apart, clean off the collected grime, and replace all key material. We'll also clean and re-seat pads as needed, making sure you get the horn in perfect playing shape.
We previously sold this tenor to its last owner in 2017. A good regular customer of ours, we've maintained it for him since then, and pads are all in excellent shape, fitted with brown plastic resonators. They have lots of life left in them, and our fresh pro set up will make sure it is sealing up like a drum. While the horn has a pretty good amount of lacquer wear, the sax has never been relacquered. It shows minor dent work from the past, but no serious past trauma, and the neck has never been pulled down or damaged. The original neckstrap ring was pretty worn through, so a second one was placed just below the original (see photos).
This tenor plays fantastically, with a big bold sound and easy response. It retains some warmth of its tone, characteristic of the purple logo 62's, but is definitely a bigger sounding tenor, with a contemporary edge. This is a fun horn to play, and one that you won't worry if someone spills a drink on it at the bar. Ships in a good hard case.
