HELP, I Want One!

This is a very nice, 1937 vintage Selmer Paris Balanced Action alto saxophone, serial number 24740. This instrument has just been restored in the Saxquest repair shop, fully overhauled by Aaron Standing. It ships in fresh pads and regulated back to factory specs. It is a stunner to see and to play.

This alto is one of the finest factory relacquered instruments you'll ever find. The engraving is still crisp and detailed; even the finest detail in the pictoral scene on the bell is flawless. Remarkably, I see no evidence or signs of past damage or repair, including no resolders. The sax has been played over the last 90 years, and there is a fair amount of lacquer wear, but obviously never abused. Even the original neck is in stellar shape.

This alto was restored in our shop, using premium firm leather pads and Selmer style brown plastic resonators. The action has been set up just as a Selmer of this era should be: lighter spring touches and medium-open key heights. It feels like smooth and light under your fingers.

If you are coming from a background in more modern Selmers, you might be surprised at how open these old Balanced Actions can feel. It retains the same warm core as you'd find on a SBA or Mark VI, but is definitely more spread and response is very fast. It is an emotive and sweet sounding alto. Most of these Balanced Actions have been buffed out hard, losing a lot of detail in the engraving. This one looks fantastic, and will not be here for long.
