This is a lightly used P Mauriat PMXT-66RDK series tenor sax, serial number PM0908009. This tenor is in outstanding physical shape with 99% original matte lacquer intact. Priced hundreds of dollars below even the going “discounted” price, this is a real opportunity to pick up a top shelf tenor for a song.
The 66R series features rolled tone holes, and this tenor comes in the lush DK finish, which has an antiqued matte look to it. The lacquer shows only minor cosmetic surface wear from light use, and no major wear to speak of. The low Eb keyguard got bent in shipping to us, but we'll reshape that before we sell it, and there are no other previous damages or repairs to the horn anywhere. The original Super VI neck has never been pulled down or damaged.
Pads are still in like-new condition with metal resonators; this tenor has obviously not been played very much over its life. The sax will get a cleaning and fresh pro set up from our repair shop before shipping. We'll adjust key heights and spring tensions to optimal feel, and replace all key corks and felts with better material.
The 66R is a great horn for players seeking the vintage sax sound with a more modern feel. The keywork is comfortably laid out under your fingers, and sonically, this tenor plays with a very warm and full tone. It takes your air well with just the right amount of positive resistance to give you something to push against. Control and ease of play are outstanding. It's the total package for under $3k.
