HELP, I Want One!

This is an all original lacquer Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 63725. This is a gorgeous horn, a fantastic example of an early “5 digit” VI. It will ship with a fresh overhaul from our repair shop, ready to bring years of enjoyment to its next owner.

This is a 1956 vintage Euro-engraved Mark VI, produced in the first couple years of the model. Despite its age, it looks incredible, with 95% original lacquer intact. If not for some past dent work in the bottom area (more on that in a minute), the lacquer would be close to perfect, as there's only some minor surface scratching here and there on the body tube, and no major wear on the keys/touch points. There's even a lot of the factory lacquer overspray still present on the pearls! The only past work is on that bottom bow, as mentioned. Looks like it took a hit once, leaving some lacquer wear from the repair, and the brass is a bit lumpy to the touch in that spot. Thankfully, the bottom bow guard is still perfect. That is the only past repair on this horn. The bell flare is flawless, there are no resolders, etc. The original neck is perfect too; never pulled down, no real lacquer loss, and the blue paint is still all intact around the “S” on the octave key.

This tenor was repadded a couple years ago and pads don't look old, but to really optimize the sax, we are going to perform a fresh pro overhaul with better pads and material. We'll optimize the key heights and spring tensions, take everything to factory specs. It will ship in perfect adjustment and backed by our full one year mechanical warranty.

Even on the current pad job, this tenor blew me away. Bold sound, definitely on the warmer side, but not as focused/compact as the modern Selmers. It has that “5 digit magic” going on and is a real dynamic, versatile player from low Bb up into the altissimo. A tremendous tenor for serious collectors and players alike. Ships in its original Euro-style Selmer case.
