Gorgeous, original silver plated Martin Handcraft Committee “Skyline” engraved alto sax, serial number 125330. This horn was just lovingly restored in the Saxquest repair shop by Josh Creekmore, and ships in perfect playing condition. It is a fine horn for players and collectors alike.
Most shops don't take the time to properly restore these old American-made saxes, but they can be really nice instruments when done correctly. And this one is a looker! The original silver is 99% intact, with no major wear to speak of, even on the touch points. The bell just gleams, as the original gold wash inside the bell is perfect too. The sax has a couple tiny past dings and dimples but no serious past trauma, and no resolders on the body. The original neck has the matching serial, and it shows one previous repair, where the octave key itself broke and we repaired it as well as possible (see photos).
This instrument has been padded using premium Valentino Pro leather pads and seamless, metal resonators. It has been set up to feel just as it did the day it left the factory, with a medium-open key height and fairly light spring tension. Quick and effortless (and quiet!) action under your fingers.
If, like us, you dig this old horns, this one will not disappoint. It plays with a lush, warm sound, with a lot of character, while offering the player total control over inflections and subtleties of voicing. It's a beautiful horn to look at and to play.
