Product ID: 146185MarkVIAlto
This is an outstanding, 1967 vintage Selmer Mark VI alto sax, serial number 146185. This horn looks fantastic and will be shipping with a fresh restoration from the Saxquest repair shop. If you've been on the hunt for one of the fabled '67 vintage altos, this could be a perfect match for you.
This alto looks great. When I first saw it, I thought it was original lacquer, but upon close inspection, I think it has been relacquered and later re-engraved in the original American engraving style. There's a few “double cuts” when you look really closely at the engraving on the bell, where you can see newer engraving on top of the old. Even so, it is one of the best jobs I've ever seen, and the horn looks amazing. The only previous dent work I can find is the bell flare was previously bent down in one spot, showing some lacquer creasing there. The original neck certainly looks to be original lacquer (notice the stamping on the Selmer emblem in the photos). The neck has never been pulled down, but did previously have a mic pickup installed. This has been removed and sealed with a flush plug, and the neck does show lacquer loss from the heat applied during this work.
This Mark VI came to us on old pads, so to make it perfect, we're going to complete a full overhaul. We'll use premium firm leather pads and metal resonators, adjusting spring tensions and key heights throughout, to really get the most out of this alto.
There's a reason so many alto players flock to the 1967 horns. This alto plays with a fierce, powerful voice, lots of edge and color, while retaining a balance of tone and projection. It will play even better when our work is completed! Ships in BAM softpack case.
