HELP, I Want One!

This is a clean early vintage Martin Committee “The Martin Tenor” sax, serial number 164252. The serial number dates this sax to 1947, just a couple years after the introduction of this popular model. This sax needs a pad job, and we are offering it as-is at a low price.

This tenor was relacquered long ago, and the “newer” lacquer has aged to a dark brown patina. It shows a moderate amount of finish wear, all just cosmetic, with just a few minor dings here and there, mostly in the bottom bow area. The sax does have its original neck with matching serial number, and the neck has never been pulled down or damaged. The sax is in current need of a repad, sitting on old pads which are well past their lifespan. Should be a fairly straight forward overhaul, with new pads and material, maybe a couple springs, and if desired, some minor dent work in the bottom.

If you've never played one of these vintage Martin tenors in proper regulation, you are missing out. Once restored, this tenor will have a full sound, definitely on the warmer side. They are often fairly even keeled, not too dark nor too bright, and have a resonance that is felt throughout the whole horn. If you have a repair bench at home or a favorite tech to take this instrument to, you are well ahead of the game.
