This is a fantastic 1953 vintage Martin Committee “The Martin Alto” sax, serial number 184149. This alto is playing great and in good original lacquer, and is a great option for players looking for a dependable horn on a budget.
Physically this horn has the “played in” look, but is overall solid. There are a couple resoldered keyguard posts in the bottom bow area, as well as on the thumb rest as seen in the photos, but all was done very well. There are no major dents and really no signs of past dent repair. The bottom bow and bell flare look great. The neck is original, with the matching serial number, and it has never been pulled down. The original lacquer shows excellent coverage, just a “normal” amount of finish wear for its age.
Pads on this alto are all in great shape, fitted with brown plastic resonators. It is playing great as it sits, everything is sealing, and with our repair shop backed up for so long, we have decided to offer this alto as-is at a lower price. It has a very free, open sound, as you can see in the video posted below. Ships in a hard case.
