This is a great 1951 vintage Selmer Paris Super Balanced Action tenor sax in original silver plate, serial number 45911. If you have been looking for a horn with a special world class sound you will want to pay very close attention to this silver SBA. It is hands down an incredible player and it simply feels great to play this instrument. The SBA has an intense and is immediate in its response to air flow. Dynamic versatility and projection are fantastic on this instrument as well.
The tenor came to us on some fairly old leather pads so we are currently getting ready to put a professional re-pad on the instrument. Saxquest's professional re-pad will include a complete dissemble, silver clean and polish. The saxophone will then have precise key fitting done as well as being fitted with all new premium Valentino pro pads, metal resonators, new corks, felts and a top notch key regulation. When complete this horn will be in perfect playing condition.
This is a real players kind of Super Balanced Action. It was professionally owned and maintained by the previous owner and is in solid condition. The tenor does showcase its original silver finish. Its finish is going to be polished up in our shop and will soon look like a million bucks. The original finish is nicely complemented by some crisp engraving around the bell. It bell flare is in great shape and has never been pulled down in the past. There is some history of past repair on this saxophone. The low C key guard has previously been re-soldered. At some point in the past a tech also removed the small piece of brass near the low C# post. This piece is most often removed by request to improve the overall response and resonance of the instrument. The tenor also comes with the original SBA neck. It looks like it was very slightly pulled down in the past but this will be corrected to its true position in the Saxquest shop before the horn ships out.
We are currently getting ready to put our professional re-pad on this instrument and it will soon be in perfect playing condition. Once we have done the work on the horn and cleaned it up we will post fresh pictures and a new video at that time. At this time we will post a video of the horn on some older pads so you can get a feel for the great sound this horn has. Please stay tuned for the first video.
