This is a nice Selmer Pairs Mark VI alto sax, serial number 61973. If you are looking for a great player and don't mind a little pre existing cosmetic character this VI is going to be a great way to go. The previous owner put a nice bit of play time on it but it is physically in solid condition. This VI has a light and positive feel under the fingers and an exceptionally fast response to air flow. It plays with a rather warm sound and has outstanding projection.
The original neck with matching serial number is also with the alto and is in niuce shape. Most of the lacquer is off of the neck at this point but it has never been pulled down. This saxophone does feature a high F# which is a cool feature because the High F# was a special order on these models. The previous owner did have a after market key pearl soldered onto the high F# key.
The alto was re-lacquered in the past. It is important to stress the excellent quality of the re-lacquer job, it is definitely one of the best re-lacquer jobs we have seen in a while. The engraving is exceptionally crisp and defined. There have been a few re-solders to some of the feet to the lower key guards. The body tube, bow and bell flare are all in great physical condition. The bow cap is in great shape as well and has never been pushed in.
This saxophone is currently in the Saxquest shop being set-up and ships in perfect playing condition. If you are looking to pick up a VI alto for a lower then usual price you will not want to miss out on this one. The high F# makes it especially appealing to anyone looking to play the classical repertoire on a Mark VI.
