This is a 1940's vintage Selmer Paris Balanced Action alto saxophone, serial number 29524. The Balanced Action models are considerably more free blowing then the Mark VI and current production SII and SIII. They offer a warm sound and a sweet sonic palate with less resistance. These saxophones also feature a spread quality often associated with vintage Selmer Saxophones. Their in line key lay out is comfortable and extremely ergonomic allowing for an easy play and fluid motion.
This particular Balanced Action is in great shape and is ideal for anyone looking to get into a vintage Selmer while saving some money. It shows a history of lots of performances and play time but has been well maintained over the years. This alto was re-lacquered a long time ago and its current lacquer shows off the proper air bake honey toned lacquer with crisp engraving. The condition of the body tube, bell, bow and bow cap are all very nice. The bow cap is perfect and has never been pushed in. Its bell flare is also in great shape and has no history of repair. It shows one old re-solder on the key guard foot of low Eb. Its original neck is in great condition and has never been pulled down.
The Balanced Action is currently in the Saxquest shop being set up on its current leather pads and brown plastic resonators. Saxquest is going to go through the horn top to bottom and replace all of the key felts and corks with premium materials as well as changing out any needed pads. The horn will soon be in perfect playing condition.
This is a great vintage Selmer alto at an outstanding price. If you are looking to get into the classic sound of the 1940's you will not want to miss out on this Balanced Action.
