This is a late 1938 vintage Selmer Paris Balanced Action alto sax, serial number 27184. If you are looking for a really sweet sounding sax you will want to give this one a serious look. It plays with an extremely rich and clear sonic quality. The colorful voice of this saxophone sings out with ease and has excellent balance from end to end. Its inline key work feels nice and compact under the fingers allowing for ultra fluid movement and an easy play.
The finish on the alto was factory re-done a long time ago with the proper air bake lacquer. It was done exceptionally well and sports a dark honey color and crisp floral engraving. The body of the alto shows typical cosmetic character for a horn that was well played over the years but it was well cared for and never abused. There is a re-solder on the bell to body brace. The body tube, bell and bow are all in nice shape, the bow cap shows just a little wear. The original neck is with the saxophone. It is in great shape and has never been pulled down.
This sax is currently in the Saxquest shop awaiting a precise regulation and set-up on its currrent set of leather pads and brown plastic resonators. Saxquest is going to completely dissemble and clean the sax, replace all the key material and a few necessary pads. We are also going to do some clean up to the solder spot on the bell to body brace. The saxophone will soon be in perfect playing condition.
If you are looking for a vintage alto with an especially rich sonic quality you will quickly fall in love with this alto.
