Product ID: 97691MartinAlto
This is a true collector's horn: a beautiful original condition Martin Handcraft “Typewriter” alto saxophone, serial number 97691. This saxophone is in gorgeous original gold plating and is in tremendous shape.
The original gold plating on this sax is 95%, and it shows no past trauma and no obvious dent repair. There are 2 resolders, one of the low Eb keyguard, and one of the back body tube post of the low B keyguard. The sax has been polished up and looks great. It features beautiful, detailed hand engraving, showcasing an eagle who's feathers stretch up to outline the outside of the Martin shield. This alto does have its original neck, with matching serial number, and the neck has never been damaged. This alto is currently sitting on older pads which will need to be replaced for any serious playing.
This instrument got its nickname because of the pearl buttons on nearly all of the key touches, resembling typewriter keys. I'm sure Martin thought it was a great design at the time, but it wasn't popular. With no rollers between the pinky keys, and a very un-ergonomic feel in the palm and side keys, this model was replaced after just 2 years. Consequently not many were made, and it has become one of the more sought-after instrument for saxophone collectors. This example is in fantastic shape and will make the perfection addition for any serious collector.
