This is a very nice original lacquer King Super 20 tenor sax, serial number 364627. This is a Cleveland, OH, vintage Super 20, dating to around 1959. This tenor is a serious player and is in fantastic shape too.
Looking at the horn, it is obvious that the sax was well cared for over the years. There are no big dents or past repairs. The sax has a couple minor dings here and there, but no major past damage. During our set up, we will remove those little pings and make it perfect. The original sterling silver neck is also in great shape and has never been pulled down. It features the underslung octave key and double socket receiver.
This sax came to us recently repadded, fitted with brown plastic resonators. The pads are all good, but we will still go through it and put a top pro set up on it. We'll open up the key heights and even all of the spring tensions, and put the sax in perfect adjustment. It will ship out in optimal playing shape.
This sax is a powerhouse for sure, but it also plays with a lot of character in its tone. It has a very colorful timbre, and easy nature in the way it takes your air. I found it to be a comfortable horn to play, put when I wanted to push it, it didn't blink and kept on going. The altissimo speaks effortlessly as well. A great horn for jazz and rock.
