This is a vintage C.G. Conn New Wonder alto sax, serial number 122855. The sax has seen its fair share of playing over the years but is in very solid condition and has been well maintained over the years. At some point the lacquer was removed and it now shows a clean raw brass body. The physical body of the sax is very nice and shows no history of ever receiving serious dent or solder work in the past. The bow, bow cap, bell, body tube and bell flare are all in great original condition. There is just a few hard to see pin size pings around the lower bow. This sax is missing half of the original octave key guide (see picture 16). This is a cosmetic factor and in no way affects the way the horn plays. The original neck with Conn Micro Tuner is also with the horn and in good condition.
As you would expect from a vintage Conn the alto is quite free blowing and has an especially fat low end. Another shop recently serviced this instrument and made it play on mostly older pads. It is by no means professionally set-up but it is sealing from top to bottom and is a fun horn to play. If you are looking for a good player on a budget or want to get into the American vintage sound this is a great way to do it. This sax ships out in a nice contoured SKB case.
