HELP, I Want One!

This is an excellent condition Selmer Paris Reference 54 alto sax in the traditional dark amber lacquer, serial number 659285. This alto has been well cared for and is a fantastic player for today's serious player. It is a versatile horn for both classical and jazz.

This sax has definitely been loved during its life. The original lacquer is about 95% intact, with one small quarter-sized wear spot on the bottom bow, and no other major lacquer wear to speak of. The sax shows absolutely no dents or previous repairs, including no resoldered joints. The original neck to this horn did have the receiver tenon pop off at some point and needed to resoldered back on, and the original owner then replaced it with a new Reference 54 neck. Both necks are included now with this saxophone.

All of the original pads are still in the horn, fitted with brown plastic resonators, and they have years of life ahead of them. We will go through this sax before shipping, replacing any aging material and giving the sax our thorough professional set up. We'll optimize the key heights and spring tension and adjust the horn so that it feels like new again.

This Selmer plays with a rich, dark tone, with an easy free blowing sound. It has a solid focus, not as tight as you'll find on a Series III, but still strong. If you find yourself being called to play a variety of different styles, this is a fantastic option. It ships in its original Selmer Paris contoured case.
