This is an incredible 1977 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VII tenor saxophone, serial number 262561. This tenor is in great original lacquer and does feature American-style engraving, a nice plus for a Mark VII of this vintage.. If you've been looking for a solid vintage Selmer that won't break the bank, you can't go wrong here.
The original lacquer on this tenor is the 80-85% range. Besides minor wear here and there as to be expected, there are a couple wear spots on the body tube and around the bell as seen in the photos. These are purely cosmetic. Physically, the sax is as perfect as they come. There are absolutely no past dents or dent repairs anywhere. The bottom bow is straight and the bell flare has never taken a hit. There is just one past resolder on one foot of the low C keyguard - done so well that I missed it the first time I looked over the horn! The sax does come with its original neck, which previously had a very slight pull-down, but which has been corrected and brought to proper position in our shop.
When we received this tenor, it has mostly all original pads still, which were well past their prime. As such, this tenor is currently in our repair shop in line for our full custom overhaul. We'll take it apart, clean it top to bottom, and replace all of the pads, corks, and felts. We'll optimize the key heights for intonation and response, and even all the spring tensions too. It will ship in better playing shape than the day it left the factory.
Don't let the bad rap of the Mark VII fool you. This tenor has all the power you could ask for and still retains a strong focused core sound. You can push this tenor as hard as you can and it doesn't ever feel like you are hitting a wall, but its tone stays warm and colorful. You can do anything from funk to balads on this sax. Comes in its original Selmer vanguard case.
