This is a great original lacquer Selmer Mark VI alto sax, serial number 201470. This is a later vintage VI, dating to around 1972. Though it doesn't have the high price tag of an early Mark VI, it definitely has the vintage Selmer sound to keep you smiling.
This sax has been professionally played and maintained. It shows nominal lacquer wear for a sax that has been doing more than sitting in a closet the last 40 years, and two minor past repairs (resolders) on a couple lower body keyguards. There is also one minor dent right on the bottom bow cap. The neck is original to the horn and doesn't appear to have ever been pulled down.
This sax was recently professionally overhauled and comes in all new pads, fitted with original style brown plastic resonators. It has quality synthetic corks and felts and has a quiet but steady feel under your fingers. The action is quick and precise and very fluid. The previous owner added an Oleg riser onto palm D, which we've left for now, but you can easily remove that later if you desire.
If you've been on the hunt for the perfect Mark VI on a budget, this is a fantastic find. You very rarely find good examples in this price range, and almost never in original lacquer. This is a versatile horn and a great player for jazz, rock, funk, or even classical, a nice all-around player for today's busy musician.
